Yes, you
can resolve your family’s differences without disrupting your
connection as a family. We grow up thinking that family members should not disagree. Yet
life is based on variety; family members have differences. As
difficult as it is to think about addressing differences in a
family, there is no question that allowing them to go
undiscussed results in long-term consequences.
In the environment that we create, family members articulate
their differences and go beyond them to create common goals and
direction. This is not a therapeutic process of airing
grievances; rather, it is an opportunity for individual members
to calmly articulate what they believe and how they came to
believe it. Structured in the right way, these types of
conversations bridge generational, gender, and sibling
differences. While families vary in their ability to tolerate
differences, we find that over time our process permits families
to understand and integrate the differences rather than discount
or reject them.
Using Family Systems Theory as our guide, we are able to
articulate the differences in a way that builds connection among
family members rather than challenges it.
If you wonder if your family can resolve its family’s
differences without disrupting your connection as a family,
